Sakhalin to have mush more fresh tomatoes in April

The launch of a new production block of "Teplichniy" collective farm will bring additional 350 tons of vegetables per year to the shelves of Sakhalin shops. The official ceremony of the opening of new one hectare greenhouse will take place in the farm tomorrow, February 5th, www.skr.su informs.

"This greenhouse has become the first of the kind constructed since 1984. The construction started in May past year. We applied the advanced technologies, automatic regulation of heat supply, and the system of micro-climate control. Although the official opening ceremony takes place tomorrow, we have already planted tomato transplants there. Sakhalin people will be cheered by first ripened tomatoes as soon as in April", Elena Butkova, Deputy Director on Production told.

The island inhabitants will surely feel the increased production of tomatoes. Now, instead of 800 tons of tasty and yummy tomatoes "Teplichniy" will sell 1,150 tons. The enterprise representatives hope that the increased production can help to decrease the price of the highly demanded products.

The new hectare of the greenhouse may possibly be used for cucumber production next year. This vegetable is also popular, and the price can be reduced by means of the increased production.
