Vegetables and potato have got 94% more expensive during a year

According to estimations done by the analysts of CIS fruit & vegetable periodical "Fruit-Inform" weekly, the annual price increase for vegetables has reached 94%. We'd like to point out that the increase of the retail prices was even more significant, because of the higher expenses for the trade outlets rent, the utilities cost and salary level of the personnel.

Our calculations are based on the average weighed increase of the wholesale prices for potato and major vegetables in various regions of Ukraine in the end of February 2008, with the account to the sales volumes, comparing to the price level recorded in the end of February 2007.

Potato has got less expensive than other products, although the lion's share is allocated to this product in fruit & vegetable consumption structure. The wholesale price for potato has increased just 10-15% during a year. At the same time, the prices for carrot and table beet have increased in average 3.5 - 4 times as much, onion prices - 3 times as much, cabbage prices - 2.5 times as much, fresh herbs prices - almost twofold as much during this period.

According to the forecasts done by "Fruit-Inform" analysts, the significant decline of the wholesale prices for vegetables is expected in the second half of 2008.
