Ukraine: prices for cabbage down in 10 times compared with the last year

As the analysts of the CIS fruit & vegetable business weekly "Fruit-Inform", forecasted overproduction of white cabbage in 2008 caused sharp reduction in prices for it. Despite the fact that it is enough time till harvesting campaign of late varieties of cabbage prices for this vegetable have already reached historical minimum that make farmers leave production in the fields.

To date, one can buy whitу cabbage even at $0.07/kg. Just to compare, at the same time last year prices for white cabbage reached $0.65-0.86/kg. Thus, wholesale prices for cabbage in Ukraine decreased in 10 times compared to the last year index, nevertheless it causes growth of demand.

Due the existent situation, the specialists of Fruit-inform project recommend Ukrainian farmers to export this product, exactly for processing needs, to Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and the CIS countries. Besides, it is possible to close forward transactions for processing of cabbage for customers from neighboring countries. Prices for cabbage on the wholesale market in Poland vary from $0.13 to 0.86/kg, and in Russia - $0.13-0.28/kg. Prices for cabbage in Belarus are up 30% compared to Russia. The wholesale prices for this product in Georgia reach $0.33-0.5/kg.
