Russia: Dagestan to harvest lower grape crop because of drought

The meeting on preparing to grape harvesting took place in the administration of Kayakentskiy region of Dagestan, RIA Dagestan reported referring to Abdulkar Kadyrov, the head of the administration of agriculture of the region.

“This year, we expect for lower harvest than last year, hundreds hectares of vineyards failed in some farms of the region, including many table varieties, due to drought in summer and unusual frosts in winter last year. Therefore this year we will receive by 1.5-2 less grapes than we expected, ”- he noted.

During the meeting, were discussed the issues regarding harvesting of grapes, performance of the harvesting plan for the current year, state of grape plantations of the region and of the harvesters.

Kayakentskiy region is well-known outside the Republic as a center of grape plantations, that bring 2/3 of the profit of all agro-industrial complex of Dagestan.
