Russia: farmers from Archangelsk oblast harvested about 1.000 tonnes of potatoes
The farms of Archangelsk oblast harvested 995 tonnes of potatoes. The total harvested area is 18.5 ha, reported Vasiliy Pavlov, the Head of agricultural department of agro-industrial complex of Archangelsk oblast, to the correspondent of IA REGNUM.
According to him, this year harvesting of potatoes has started later than in 2007 because of unfavourable weather. As V. Pavlov noted, today, it is early to talk about harvest results, however it is obvious that weather conditions will not allow having good results. The farms of Velskiy region, where yield totals 216 c/ha, Shenkurskiy region- 125 c/ha, Kargopolskiy region – 109 c/ha show the best results.
According to IA REGNUM, the harvest of potatoes in 2007 was assumed as “not very good”. Last year, total yield was 98 c/ha in the oblast, much lower than in 2006 when it totaled 135c/ha. Not only difficult weather conditions became the main cause determined bad harvest but also sharp development of potato diseases and lack of appropriate protection from them.
