Georgia: half decrease of citrus harvest

As it was reported by IA “Interfax-Zapad referring to the Ministry of agriculture of Georgia, the forecast for citrus harvest this year totals 60.000 tonnes, that is almost 2 times less than in 2007.

According to the report of the representative of the Ministry, the main reason of this decrease is unfavorable weather conditions. It is intended that nearly 50 % of the harvest will be exported to Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia. 30-35 % of the harvest will be sent for processing, the rest will be sold on the domestic market.

In 2007 citrus harvest totaled 98.900 tonnes, up 2 times compared to the same index of the previous year (52.800 tonnes).
