Ukraine: less oranges and lemons imported in August

As it was reported by Fruit-Inform project, according to the customs data, 2.453 tonnes of oranges were imported to Ukraine in August 2008, down 10 % compared to August of the last year (2.737 tonnes).

112.27 tonnes of oranges were imported during 8 months of the current year. The average import price totaled 342.53 euro/tone.

The main supplier of citrus was Egypt – 84.274 tonnes. Smaller amounts of fruits were imported from Turkey (6.878 tonnes), the South African Republic (5.785 tonnes) and Cyprus (5.023 tonnes).

In August 2008, imports of tangerine to Ukraine totaled 236 tonnes, up 10 % or 23 tonnes as compared to the volume of imported produce in the same month of 2007. During January-August, 59.802 tonnes of citrus were imported, at the same time, the average import price totaled 257.74 euro/kg. Tangerines were imported mainly from Pakistan, Georgia, Turkey and Spain in the volumes of 14.991 tonnes, 12,223 tonnes, 11,980 tonnes and 9,160 tonnes, respectively.

During 8 months of 2008, 34.899 tonnes of lemons were imported to Ukraine (at that, 15.949 tonnes were imported from Argentina and 12.376 tonnes - from Turkey) at the average price of 431.21 euro/tone. In August 2008, imports of lemons to Ukraine decrased by 53 % compared to August, 2007. During the reporting month, 842 tonnes of this fruit were imported, the average import price totaled 581.49 euro/tone.

According to data of Fruit-Inform project, during 2007, the volume of imported oranges totaled 155.978 tonnes, tangerines – 135.214 tonnes and also 56.488 tonnes of lemons. At the same time, the import price for oranges totaled 162.82 euro/tone, for tangerines and lemons - 149.62 euro/tonne and 161.35 euro/tonne, respectively.
