Ukraine: wholesale companies refuse to purchase onion for storing

Demand for onion from wholesale companies is substantially lower as compared to the last year, despite the height of the season of storing activity, reported agrarian producers to the specialists of Fruit-Inform project. The customers reported that the main reason of refusal of purchasing big lots of onion for storing is increased moisture content, so the produce is particularly unfit for storing. Consequently, despite the satisfactory harvest, general volume of onion in stores may be substantially lower as compared to the forecast, and may have an impact on pricing level during winter and spring periods.

The detailed forecast of production and prices for onion and other groups of fruit and vegetable produce in Ukraine and Russia will be represented by the specialists of “Fruit-Inform” project during the largest conferences in the CIS: the Third International Conference "Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia – 2008” and the Fifth International Conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2008".
