Ukraine increased imports of wheat and flour
In December 2002 Ukraine imported 3,000 tonnes of wheat, which is far ahead of November's amount and is the largest figure in the current season. The whole amount was imported from Russia at an average contract price $54.4 per tonne.
Wheat imports over the first six months of the MY (marketing year - July through June) just slightly exceeded 4,500 tonnes, however it could further increase because of significant difference in prices in Russian and Ukrainian markets.
Ukraine has also increased imports of flour. The import in December was also the largest one in the season, reaching 2,640 tonnes. The major part was supplied from Russia at the average price $167.5 per tonne. The total import over the first half of the season constituted 3,680 tonnes.
In 2001/02 marketing year Ukraine officially imported 6,900 tonnes of flour.
