Russia: production of vegetables in Leningrad region

According to official data, in 2008, in Leningrad region of Russia, production of potatoes totaled 326.000 tonnes or 100.2 % to the level of 2007, production of hothouse and open-soil vegetables reached the level of 261.400 tonnes (109 % to the level of the previous year). At that, farmers managed to increase average crop yield - potato yield increased by 3 % and reached the level of 153 c/ha, yield of vegetables increased by 7 % and totaled 312 c/ha.

During the reporting period, agrarian enterprises produced 117.800 tonnes of potatoes (105 % to the level of 2007) and 138.700 tonnes of open-soil vegetables (110 %). Potato yield totaled 210 c/ha or 112 % to the level of 2007, yield of other vegetables - 400 c/ha (107 %).

64 % of gross potato crop and 40 % of gross vegetable crop fall to the share of private farms and private farmers. Potato yield totaled 156 c/ha or 119 % to the level of 2007, yield of open-soil vegetables - 258 c/ha (134 %).
