Kazakhstan plans to increase production of potatoes and vegetables

Government of Northen-Kazakhstan region developed a project of special program aimed at supply of population with potatoes and vegetable produce. The project is provided for 2009-2010. The main direction of this program is substantial extension of lands under these crops. Thus, according to this program, in 2009 sown area under vegetables and potatoes will total 4800 ha and 26400 ha respectively.

Also the regional government plans to rebuild existent hothouse complexes and construct new hothouses that will increase vegetable production during the interseasonal period by 1.5 times.

At that it is important to modernize storages for vegetables and potatoes and to start implementing resource-saving technologies.

According to preliminary estimations, the cost of this program is 1.473 mln euros.
