Moldova: annual production of fruits totals 400.000 tonnes

Production of fruits is one of the most important economic branches of Moldova. According to statistics information, fruits total 4 % from the gross volume of agrarian produce.

As of January 1th, 2009, areas of gardening plantations, nut crops and plantations of fruit bushes totaled 125000 ha, including:

- plantations of stone-fruits and seed gardens - 116600 ha (93 % from the gross area)

- plantations of nut crops - 8200 ha (6.5 %)

- plantations of fruit bushes - 500 ha.

During the period 2001-2008, average annual volume of fruits produced in Moldova totaled 400000 tonnes of fruits, including 305000 tonnes of apples , 4000 tonnes of pears, 4000 tonnes of quince, 50000 tonnes of plums, 20000 tonnes of cherries and sweat cherries, 15000 tonnes of peaches and 5000 tonnes of apricots.

Should be noted that Moldavian fruits are supplied to 33 countries.
