Ukraine: the Crimea imports vegetables

According to official information, during January-May of the current year, more that 6000 tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetable produce were imported to the Crimea that is up by 2377 tonnes or 1.6 times, compared to the same period of 2008. During the reported period, the Crimea purchased 4956 tonnes of tomatoes that is up 2.5 times compared to the same period of 2008, 746 tonnes of cucumbers, 203 tonnes of pepper, 13 tonnes of egg-plants and 8 tonnes of cauliflower.

Despite the overproduction of early potatoes in the Crimea, during 5 months of the current year 60 tonnes of this produce were imported from Jordan that is up 3 times compared to the last year.

Also specialists report that in the first quarter of 2009 the Crimea exported almost 2700 tonnes of vegetables and 20 tonnes of potatoes.
