All about Russian fresh produce market just in one day! Registration coming to an end

The Fourth International Conference “Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia – 2011” is taking place in conjunction with World Food Moscow, on September 14, 2011. The conference is sponsored by Mediterranean Fruit Company (Italy) and Fito-Mag (Russia) that again shows its urgency and importance for the global fresh produce business.

According to Fruit-Inform Project, thanks to Rosselkhoznadzor's ban on vegetable imports from the EU countries in view of the E. coli outbreak, the Russian Federation sharply increased fresh produce imports from the CIS countries. In connection with this, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Moldova and Azerbaijan will manage to increase considerably their fresh produce exports to the Russian Federation.

Furthermore, Uzbekistan has already entered the group of Russia's three biggest suppliers of fruits with the export value of $300 mil. in the previous season, which had shown a 47% year-on-year growth rate, and Ukraine managed to become Russia's third major supplier of frozen fruits and vegetables!

At the same time, there is a crisis currently raging in the Russian fruit market and connected with oversupply of citruses and exotics in the country. Wholesale prices for bananas and citrus fruits are already twice as low as in 2010. As to the situation with other import categories, the situation is opposite there. For example, in the first half of this year Russia's imports of peaches and nectarine grew 1.5 times year-on-year. Moreover, potato imports in the first 7 months of 2011 are twice as large as in the whole year 2010, and Russia's imports of bell peppers in the first 6 months of this year are record-breaking and 17% higher than in the same period of the past season.
