Manager of International Development Department, Land O'Lakes, visited Cherkasy
Director of Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP) Mr. Robert Lee and manager of international Projects in Europe and Eurasia, Land O'Lakes Mr. James Herne have recently visited Cherkasy oblast.
The visitors have acquainted with the presentations about Cherkasy oblast development and plans of Cherkasy AMP office activities. They also visited v. Khudyaki, Cherkasy oblast, met with the members of service cooperative - L.I. Sobol, M.V. Polyshchuk, V.M. Bryk, I.I. Dovgalyuk, S. Bryk. There are 20 members in the cooperative; they are land owners, total acreage of land is 34 hectares. The members of cooperative produce vegetables and fruits. The cooperative assists its members to sell produced commodity in supermarket chains of Cherkasy. This 2004 year the cooperative plans to accumulate large volumes of cucumbers for sale to Closed Joint-stock Company Veres in line with the preliminary agreement singed with the help of AMP specialists.
After that the Project chiefs met with O. Kravchenko, the chairman of farm "AKRA", and with managers of "GrandMarket" and "Silpo" supermarkets, where a wide assortment of commodities produced by farmers - AMP clients is on offer. The next problems were discussed - how to increase production, improve sales practices, make better cooperative and farm work. Robert Lee and James Herne have shared concrete suggestions regarding the improvement of AMP cooperation with various farmers associations and owners of private plots.
During meetings in supermarkets the opinion interchange took place concerning improvement of cooperation between farmers - AMP clients and supermarkets. The representatives of supermarkets are quite satisfied with collaboration to AMP. We can expect that in future the major part of fruit and vegetable commodities in supermarkets will be supplied by farmers - AMP clients.
