Shuvar market, the largest wholesale market in Ukraine, invites to the conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2005"
First international fruit and vegetable conference was conducted by Agrooglyad journal under support of the Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP) in the end of 2004. The event was so successful for the wholesale produce market Shuvar in Lviv that the management of the enterprise decided to sponsor the second international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2005".
During the first conference the market management was able to make numerous contacts with the large trade enterprises which started to use Shuvar's market services and contributed to its development. Thanks to one of the contacts with the foreign supplier of the unique for Ukraine equipment for post harvest handling, Shuvar market advanced the idea to create the packing center for root crops and other vegetables as an additional service for wholesalers and supermarkets. As Shuvar representatives say, during the previous conference they also obtained highly valuable information about the effective modem technologies of fruit and vegetable storage; several modern cold storages for fruits and vegetables have been constructed now on the territory of the market.
Today Shuvar market is an absolute leader among the wholesale food markets in Ukraine. In fact it is the only wholesale market in the country which is oriented on the high standards of the wholesale markets in Central and Western Europe. The most striking fact is that Shuvar market is developing by high rates without governmental support, unlike the markets in Poland and the EU countries. There is a sheltered area for about 500 vehicles on Shuvar market, where the produce can be sold directly from trucks. Not less than 3,000 autos of the buyers of produce and other food stuff are coming daily to the market. So, more than 1,000 tons of fresh fruits and vegetables are passing through the market daily.
Please note that past year Shuvar market was the first among other wholesale markets to create free-of-charge informational center Shuvar-Info. The center is constantly providing the information about the present prices on fruits and vegetables sold on market to anybody interested. Besides, in Shuvar-Info you can inquire about the available trading points, the prices on market services, and even know about the deficit and excessive supply of products. Thanks to the cooperation of Shuvar company with the Agricultural Marketing Project the daily prices on the market are published daily on AMP site.
As Shuvar market is very close to the border with the European Union, it has some good perspectives to be the hugest place of the international produce trade. This year the management of the market studied actively the perspectives of fruit and vegetable export from Ukraine. The import taxes on fresh fruits and vegetables have been decreased recently by Ukraine, so that the attention of foreign suppliers is attracted to Shuvar market as an optimal place to meet with the large Ukrainian buyers.
Roman Stepanovich Fedyshin, the Director of LLC Shuvar believes that the second international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2005" will be the source of new business contacts, fresh ideas and further push for the wholesale trade development.
