Prices for fruit and vegetable produce decreased for the first time since the early October in Ukraine

Fruit and vegetable index of Fruit-Inform shows that cost of fruit and vegetable basket of a Ukrainian consumer decreased by 2% within the last week. This happened for the first time since the early October, although certain categories of produce, especially so-called “borsch vegetables”, were regularly decreasing in price within the month.

Again, having fallen in price for 7% within a week, borsch vegetables were the main reason for decrease of cost of fruit and vegetable basket within the last week. And the first fiddle in these vegetables was traditionally played by potatoes having further decreased in price for 12%. So these facts corroborated our earlier forecasts. Decrease of prices for potatoes was considerably compensated by sharp increase of prices for cabbage happened the last week.

In addition, glass-grown vegetables being the main reason for growth of prices for main set of fruits and vegetables kept on increasing in prices. The main increase was registered for cucumbers, so consumption volumes of them continued to fall. After decrease in the previous week, cost of fruit basket did not show any significant changes within this week.
