Prices for white cabbage keep on growing in Ukraine
Ukrainian market faces prices for white cabbage keeping on growing. According to data of Fruit-Inform, during the last 2 weeks, prices for produce at farms grew averagely by 20%. Currently, they vary within UAH 2.50-3.50/kg (EUR 0.22-0.31/kg). Minimum prices of UAH 2.50-3.00/kg (EUR 0.22-0.27/kg) are declared by farms in the central and southern regions of the country. Prices for cabbage at markets of the western and eastern regions reach UAH 2.80-3.50/kg (EUR 0.25-0.31/kg).
The main factor of increase of prices for white cabbage is its low supply at market and stably high demand. As to producers, weather conditions in the current season negatively affected productivity and quality of cabbage. According to Fruit-Inform, in this season, average productivity of white cabbage in Ukraine fell by almost 10%. As a result, total production will decrease by 4%.
In view of forecasts of price growth in this season, farmers prefer not to sell cabbage for the present. This also buoys prices at domestic market. Many producers plan to store cabbage at least till the mid winter.
