Russian fruit and vegetable index from «Fruit-Inform»

Since November 2010, Fruit-Inform announces of launching of fruit and vegetable price index enabling to monitor real complex changes of prices for fruit and vegetable categories in Russia.

Price index includes the most consumed (and bought) fruits and vegetables in a certain period of time. Particularly in November, the index includes potatoes, cabbage, onions, beets, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, apples, bananas, oranges, tangerines, and lemons. In future, depending on a season, composition of products for calculation of index will change. Index is calculated by determination of price changes within a certain period of time (within a year, within a week etc.) corrected to volume of market. In that way, this index will represent the so-called “fruit and vegetable basket” of a Russian consumer during a certain period of time.

Andriy Yarmak, Head of Project Fruit-Inform, says: “Fruit and vegetable index of Fruit-Inform is designed to show, how costs for fruits and vegetables of a Russian consumer will increase or decrease in a certain period of time”.

Notwithstanding the index to be calculated on the basis of wholesale prices of producers (importers), it will be enough representative for determination of dynamics of retail prices, as correlation of wholesale and retail prices in the segment of fresh fruit and vegetable produce is very high.

The index is to be daily renewed and show dynamics of real price changes within a week and comparatively with the previous year.
