Ukrainian supermarkets more and more actively selling organic produce
More and more Ukrainian supermarket chains offer their buyers fresh organic produce. This is indicated by results of the study “Ratings of Ukrainians supermarkets according to quality of fruit and vegetable departments”. The study will be presented in course of work of the seventh international conference ”Vegetables and Fruit of Ukraine-2010” that is to take place at “Expocenter of Ukraine”, Kiev, Ukraine, on December 1-2, 2010.
Offering clients fresh organic produce, the chains attract upper-income consumers, who can not find organic produce at markets. It is not surprising that fruit and vegetable departments are present primarily at Kievan supermarket chains that are situated in downtown or not far from downtown of Kiev.
All fresh fruit and vegetable produce found at Kievan supermarket shelves is imported one, primarily from EU countries. So, prices for this produce are manyfold higher than for non-organic one, even if it is imported from abroad too. In contrast, retail prices for organic fruits and vegetables in EU are averagely by 10-50% higher than for non-organic ones.
You may get to know more about results of the study in course of work of the seventh international conference ”Vegetables and Fruit of Ukraine-2010” already during this week.
