Exports of melons and watermelons from Ukraine increased 2-fold in 2010
Ukraine disposes of great export potential in fruit and vegetable produce trade. As of today, the country already is a nett exporter of melons and watermelons, and nett exporter of sweet cherries. In the current year, the record-breaking volume of melons and watermelons was exported. This was noted by Tatyana Getman, Editor-in-Chief of Fruit-Inform Project, in course of her speech during the conference “Vegetables and Fruit of Ukraine-2010”. Overall volume of supplies reached 44,000 tonnes, of which 25,000 tonnes were exported to EU.
It is interesting that exports of melons and watermelons increased 6-fold within the last 4 years, while, at the same time, domestic production decreased by 7%.
