Decrease of fruit and veg produce prices for the first time within 5 last weeks in Russia

Russian fruit and vegetable index of Fruit-Inform shows that cost of fruit and vegetable basket of Russian consumer decreased by 4% within the last week, which was experienced for the first time within 5 last weeks.

The main reason of this was decrease of prices for glass-grown tomatoes, as they became cheaper by 25% at once within the last week due to increase of imports of cheaper produce from Turkey. We should also note a slight decrease of prices for beets and bananas. At the same time, price growth was registered for cabbage and apples, as shortage of high-quality produce supply was as before experienced for these categories.

Analysts of Fruit-Inform Project pay attention of market participants to relatively complicated situation with cabbage, as its production decreased in Ukraine, as well as in Russia. Poland as the only possible big supplier of cabbage has also sharply decreased its production. In such a way, cabbage imports from CIS countries are currently gaining urgent importance.
