Kiev is to get the state-of-the-art agricultural produce wholesale market worth EUR 124,1 million. Foundation stone ceremony is to take place today
As Fruit-Inform Project was told by Roman Fedishin, Director of Shuvar, currently the only state-of-the-art agricultural produce wholesale market in Ukraine, at 2 p.m., today, foundation stone ceremony of Stolichnyi, the biggest food wholesale market of Ukraine to be constructed in Kiev, is to take place.
The market will occupy an area of 160 hectares near Metro Cash & Carry supermarket. For comparison, Shuvar wholesale market occupies an area of about 12 hectares, and territory of Fermer, horticultural wholesale market at Troeschina residential community in Kiev, is even smaller. Aggregate investments in the wholesale market are estimated at EUR 124,1 million, and its design will adopt practices of creation of the best wholesale markets in Europe, and, what is important, successful practices of Shuvar wholesale market, which is actively developing since 2002 and already enters group of 10 biggest wholesale markets of Europe.
The first turn of the market worth more than EUR 28 million and occupying an area of 62 thousand square meters is expected to be constructed in 2011 that will enable it to begin operations with all main categories of produce. In particular, already in 2011, fresh produce pavilion with equipped pre-sale preparation area, “fish” and “meet food” terminals, “flowers” pavilion, as well as indoor ground for trading from cars, fruit and vegetable storage facilities, and customs clearance zone will be put into operation. In future, all these terminals will be widening, and logistics center and development center of agricultural production and post harvest handling technologies will begin their work.
Investors of Stolichnyi agricultural produce wholesale market project plan to implement four development turns of the market, and total sum of aggregate investments will reach EUR 124,1 million in prices of 2010. The market will provide 7 thousands job positions. When reaching estimated capacity, about 1.9 million tonnes of horticultural produce, 120 thousand tonnes of fish, and 380 thousand tonnes of meet will be sold through this market annually. Besides this, flower segment of the market is to become the biggest in Ukraine. This means that Stolichnyi will be one of the biggest fresh agricultural produce market in Europe.
