Ukraine started banana imports from India
Start of banana supplies from India is one of breakthroughs at Ukraine’s fruit market in this season. A pioneer in this area was Arkadiya company, which currently is one of the major players at Ukrainian market for imported fruits and vegetables.
It is rather early to say of possible level of demand for Indian bananas, as first small volumes of this produce entered the market in June, and large supplies started only in early winter.
The only difference of Indian bananas from Ecuadorian ones is their relatively small size, as Fruit-Inform Project was told by Arkadiya company. At the same time, according to opinion of Arkadiya’s representatives, Indian bananas are far sweeter and more flavoured. Besides this, as to importers, due to savings in transportation, prime cost of Indian fruits is averagely lower by 20% than of Ecuadorian ones. So this is one of the greatest advantages against Ecuadorian bananas under conditions of Ukrainian market.
