Ulyanovsk oblast (Russia) to be supplied with potatoes from Germany and the Netherlands

Ulyanovsk oblast government arranged potato shipments from Germany and the Netherlands for distribution at lower prices, IA Regnum-VolgaInform was informed at Ulyanovsk oblast press office.

Potatoes are imported to Ulyanovsk oblast as one of the price situation stabilization steps in the food market of the region. According to agreement, potatoes will be shipped during February-April 2011. Overall imports will reach 300 tonnes.

Prices for such produce will not exceed RUB 32/kg (EUR 0.78/kg) and will be lower than average prices in the food market of the region. For the purpose of speculation restriction, potatoes will be sold only by retail with wholesale buyup impossible. Imported potatoes will be sold since February 1 at marketplaces assigned specially for agricultural producers.

This event will take place at Shuvar wholesale market, Lvov, Ukraine, February 24-25, 2011, and gather leading potato and vegetable producers of Ukraine, as well as wholesale trade representatives, suppliers of seeds, material and technical resources, machinery and equipment for potato growing, storage, and post harvest handling.
