Ukrainian potato exports increased 12 times!
Fruit-Inform Project has already written about amateurish reports in some mass-media that led to incorrect assessment of the situation in the potato market of Ukraine. So in October some companies were actively engaged in potato exports and suffered considerable financial losses.
At the same time, Ukrainian potato exports for the first half of the season were the highest over all history of Ukraine notwithstanding many mass-media “experts” told the season to be unsuccessful. Besides this, potato exports from Ukraine in June-December 2010 were 11 times higher than in the same period of the previous year.
Of course, this was not primarily the result of potato oversupply in Ukraine, but of its shortage in Russia that will render some positive influence on prices in spring 2011. At the same time, even major potato-producing Belarus was among importers of Ukrainian produce. However, in January 2011 Ukrainian potato exports to Russia and Belarus decreased considerably, but did not fully stop.
More detailed information about potato export and import prospects and price forecasts for this produce will be presented during the third international conference “Potato and Vegetables of Ukraine-2011”.
This event is to take place at Shuvar wholesale market, Lvov, Ukraine, February 24-25, 2011. On-line registration is available through this link.
