4% increase of fruit and veg prices in Ukraine over last week

Fruit and vegetable index of Fruit-Inform shows that over last week the cost of fruit and vegetable basket of Ukrainian consumers increased by 4%, after 1.8% growth a week earlier. Over last 4 weeks prices have already increased by 11%. In such a way, fruit and vegetable price growing trends remain in effect in Ukraine.

Last week there was increase of prices registered for all three main categories of fruit and vegetable produce. However, the most considerable growth of prices was experienced for greenhouse vegetables as cucumbers from Ukrainian greenhouse centers began to enter the market more actively. Also we should mention continued growth of prices for two main problematic categories of borsch vegetables: onions and cabbages. Among fruits, only bananas went up in price.

What level will prices for potatoes and vegetables reach in March-April 2011? Should we expect overproduction of potatoes and vegetables in the new season? These and many other questions will be discussed during the third international conference “Potato and Vegetables of Ukraine-2011”.

This event is to take place at Shuvar, the largest fresh fruit and vegetable produce wholesale market of Ukraine, Lvov, Ukraine, February 24-25, 2011. Participation has been already confirmed by almost all major fruit and vegetable producers of Ukraine.
