Fruit and veg prices keeping on growing in Russia
Russian fruit and vegetable index of Fruit-Inform shows that last week the cost of fruit and vegetable basket of Russian consumers grew by another 4%. In such a way, over last 2 weeks fruit and vegetable produce has already increased in price by 7%.
Price growth was experienced primarily due to greenhouse vegetables that increased in price by 34% at once. Fruit price growth was much more restrained – only by 0.2% over a week. Traditional vegetables and potatoes kept on decreasing in price, they became another 5% cheaper over a week due to decrease of prices for potatoes.
Carrots, cabbages, bananas, and mandarins increased in price. Fruit prices leveled. Almost all fruits were sold at approximately the same price – about RUB 40/kg (EUR 1/kg). Prices decreased only for apples.
We should also note that continued supplies of apples and potatoes from Ukraine (where prices for them still were much cheaper) played the important part in decrease of prices for these products in Russia.
You have an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with major Ukrainian suppliers of potatoes and vegetables during the third international conference “Potato and Vegetables of Ukraine-2011”.
