Fruit and veg price growth rates record-breaking over the first 10 days of March in Ukraine
Fruit-Inform Project's fruit and vegetable index shows that the cost of fruit and vegetable basket of Ukrainian consumers grew by 6.4% at once over last week. In such a way, seasonal fruit and vegetable price growth trend not only remains in Ukraine, but gains momentum. As to price growth over the first 10 days of March, it was record-breaking this year.
Fruit and vegetable price growth trend was not able to be stopped even by greenhouse vegetable price decrease by 1-3% over last week. At the same time, all borsch vegetables (onions, cabbage, beets, carrots) except beets increased in price. This must encourage more active sales of produce stored by households and farmers. Fruit prices grew slightly mainly due to lemons.
“In such a way, a weekly per capita set of fruit and vegetables currently costs more than ever in Ukraine's independent history”, Andriy Yarmak, Head of Fruit-Inform Project, tells. “Prices for cabbage, potatoes and onions have never before reached such levels in March. Moreover, in April, prices may grow even more significantly”, the expert sums up.
