2.3% growth of fruit and vegetable prices in Russia

Fruit-Inform Project's Russian fruit and vegetable index shows that fruit and vegetable prices have grown by 2.3% in Russia over last week that is almost the same rate of price growth a week earlier. In such a way, fruits and vegetables increased in price by only 2.5% in March that is relatively not bad result as, for example, neighboring Ukraine's fruit and vegetable price growth over the same period reached 13%.

At the same time, the cost of major fruits and vegetables is rather high in Russia and, according to Fruit-Inform Project, exceeds the last year's already high level by more than 50%. Last week traditional and greenhouse vegetables having grown in price by almost 5% were the main reason of fruit and vegetable price increase in the market of the Russian Federation. Such a trend was not able to be compensated even by continued decrease of fruit prices.

“Fruits and vegetables may increase in price again in April, and significant decrease of prices should not be expected till June”, Andriy Yarmak, Head of Fruit-Inform Project, says.
