Ukraine: cabbage prices increased 20 times over 2 years
According to Fruit-Inform Project, cabbage prices in Ukraine have grown 20 times over 2 years that is an absolute record of food price change within such a short period of time. Price growth of other traditional vegetables are as well impressive: onions grew in price 9 times, beets – 7 times, and potatoes – 2.5 times.
“Unfortunately, the situation is grievous for Ukrainian consumers of vegetables as price growth potential of vegetables and potatoes is not exhausted yet”, Andriy Yarmak, Head of Fruit-Inform Project, says. At the same time, the expert notes that the considerable part of Ukraine's population does not buy traditional vegetables and potatoes at all as they have their own stocks.
The information about further developments in the vegetable market of Ukraine in the new season will be available already in late April. Till the end of the month Fruit-Inform Project plans to complete its work on the study “Fruit and vegetable market of Ukraine-2011: fundamental analysis of the season's results and forecasts for the following season” which, besides traditional production and price forecast for all major fruits, berries, and vegetables, will include a complex assessment of Ukraine's fruit and vegetable business, from production and processing to external and internal trade over last 3 seasons.
