Fruit and vegetable prices keeping their decreasing trend in Russia
Russian fruit and vegetable index of Fruit-Inform Project shows that fruits and vegetables have further fallen in price in Russia last week. This time decrease of prices was less sharp than a week earlier and averaged only 0.7%. However, in the first week of April fruit and vegetables prices fell by 10.4% at once that is the record-breaking rate of weekly price decrease in 2011.
Last week imported fruits were the main cause of overall price decrease as mandarins, oranges, and bananas became cheaper. At the same time, apples became slightly more expensive. Growth of greenhouse vegetable prices was compensated by rather considerable decrease of prices for carrots.
We should also note that the Russian market experienced a slight decrease of garden strawberry prices last week that led to higher demand for these berries from large cities. Analysts of Fruit-Inform Project predict garden strawberry prices to keep their decreasing trend in future. At the same time, demand for this produce will be growing. Principal consumption season of these berries comes in the second half of June, when the market is entered by large quantities of domestic produce.
Moreover, we should note that Ukraine keeps on increasing its share in berry imports of the Russian Federation. You have a great opportunity to meet with leading Ukrainian suppliers of garden strawberries, sweet cherries, and other berries at the Second International Conference “Berries of Ukraine-2011: Freezing and Fresh Market” that will take place in Lviv, Ukraine, May 19-20, 2011.
