Some regions suspended plantings because of dry soil

Farmers in Kherson, Nikolaev, Odessa and Dnepropterovsk regions are noting a moisture shortage in soil, which may affect adversely the results of planting winter crops, a top official in the ministry of agriculture told reporters on September 25.

According to the official, because of moisture shortage planting has been suspended in Dnepropetrovsk and some other regions. Planting in such conditions is risky, because the stocks of seeds in the regions are not plentiful.

"Agrarian policy ministry recommends to take advice from scientists and to make decisions on site, stepping from local climatic and soil conditions and the agro-technologies. We do not say: "Do plantings at any price", said the official.
