Ukraine lowers frozen berry imports

Over first three months of 2011 Ukraine has imported 22% less frozen berries than over the same period of last year. This is explained, first of all, by decrease in imports from China and Poland which account for more than 80% of total frozen berry imports of Ukraine. According to Fruit-Inform Project, over first 3 months of this year frozen berry imports from China decreased by 26%, and from Poland – by nearly 40%. This is explained by the fact that producers from these countries focused more on the EU market in this season, as EU offered higher prices and showed higher demand. In addition, frozen berry production was lower in these countries due to raw produce shortage.

Nevertheless, as of today, Ukrainian supermarkets offer mainly imported frozen berries, as local producers have already managed to sell all their stocks before New Year.

More detailed information about Ukraine's fresh and frozen berry production prospects can be got during the Second International Conference “Berries of Ukraine-2011: Freezing and Fresh Market”. Application form is available through this link.
