The fourth week of fruit and vegetable price decrease in Ukraine

Fruit-Inform Project's fruit and vegetable index shows that last week fruit and vegetable prices have further decreased by 3.6% in Ukraine. Moreover, fruit and vegetable price reduction over last three weeks amounted to almost 10%.

The most significant contribution to fruit and vegetable price reduction was made by greenhouse vegetables and fruits. Greenhouse cucumber and tomato consumption kept on growing, and their prices continued to decrease. The same trends were observed also in a garden strawberry market sector, as prices of these berries decreased by another 25%.

In addition, prices of early cabbage dropped by another 27% last week, and it fully forced out last year's cabbage from the market. At the same time, potatoes and root vegetables kept on growing in price, though prices for this produce were mostly of indicative character as demand for it was not high due to growth of supply of early produce decreasing in price.

“Fruit and vegetable prices will keep on falling next week”, Andriy Yarmak, Head of Fruit-Inform Project, thinks. “Notwithstanding weather conditions in May and first 2 weeks of June being rather not favorable, we expect significant increase of production of both early and late vegetables in Ukraine”, the expert continues.
