Tomato prices can sharply fall in Ukraine since next week

Since next week tomato prices can fall 1.5-2 times in Ukraine. Such an opinion is held by many market participants due to tomatoes having started to enter the market from plastic greenhouses of southern regions of the country. As of today, the price dispersion is already rather wide. The produce from glasshouses is offered at UAH 9.00-10.50/kg (EUR 0.79-0.93/kg) in the internal market. The supply of tomatoes from plastic greenhouses at UAH 5-8/kg (EUR 0.44-0.71/kg) is growing in the southern regions.

For the present, the market is being partially relieved by exports. At the same time, Russian purchasers continually revise purchasing prices, and, as of today, export prices for the Ukrainian tomatoes have already fallen to UAH 7.50-8.00/kg (EUR 0.66-0.71/kg).

More detailed information about prospects expected for the Ukrainian market for tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables in the season 2011/12 is available in the fundamental study Fruit and Vegetable Market of Ukraine-2011: Results and Forecasts for the Next Season which can be ordered at International Relations Department of Fruit-Inform Project by phone: +380 96 5836323 (Ievgen Kuzin), or via e-mail: [email protected].
