Poland actively reviving farmers' markets

According to Polish mass media, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland is actively promoting the program of construction of about 300 retail farmers' markets in small cities (with the population lower than 50,000 people) throughout the country. According to the central authorities, this will enable farmers to avoid the monopoly of resellers and get an opportunity to sell their produce directly to retail buyers at higher prices.

At the same time, Polish farmers, in many cases, are sceptical about such an initiative thinking that it will be unprofitable to sell produce by retail even for relatively small enterprises. Nevertheless, the program received a backing from the regional authorities.
