17-fold increase of Ukraine's vegetable exports to Russia over last 5 years

According to Fruit-Inform Project, rapid development rates of Ukraine's fruit and vegetable business enables the country to increase its presence in the CIS markets. In particular, over last 5 years Ukraine's vegetable exports to Russia grew 17 times!!! As of today, the value of Ukraine's vegetable exports to the Russian Federation amounts to $80 mln. According to such a result, Ukraine entered the group of top-seven major exporters to Russia and outstripped such countries as Spain, Egypt, Belgium, France and Germany.

Greenhouse vegetables are the most important category of Ukraine's vegetable exports to Russia. The value of Ukraine's tomato exports to the Russian Federation amounts to $47 mln., and the value of cucumber exports – to $14 mln. As to onions, exports of this category are significant, but, for the present, unstable. Also, the export growth trends are experienced in the Ukrainian sectors of white cabbages, red beets, carrots and frozen vegetables.

Fruit-Inform Project forecasts that Ukraine's fresh and frozen fruit and vegetable exports to Russia may significantly increase in the season 2011/12 thanks to good production prospects and vegetable price reduction. In addition, we expect expansion of Ukraine's export geography in the new season.

We would remind you that a unique opportunity to meet with Russian purchasers of fruits and vegetables and get detailed information about present situation and development prospects of Russia's fruit and vegetable market will be provided during the Fourth International Conference “Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia – 2011” which will take place in conjunction with World Food Moscow, September 14, 2011. Registration of the conference participants is currently in active progress.
