Ongoing fruit and vegetable price reduction in Ukraine

Fruit-Inform Project's fruit and vegetable index shows that fruit and vegetable prices decreased by 1.7% in Ukraine last week, after 11.3% slump a week earlier. In general, the price reduction trend continues to dominate in the Ukrainian fresh produce market since the mid-May of this year. Furthermore, this season is characterized by absence of seasonal price leaps often registered in summer.

“Last week's improvement of weather conditions enabled to stabilize vegetable prices, and households' start of potato harvesting favored decrease of potato prices”, Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform Project, says. “Next week potatoes will be the main product, as households traditionally try to complete potato harvesting till early September”, the expert continues.

Last week the major contribution to fruit and vegetable price reduction was made by potatoes and tomatoes which decreased in price by 3% and 11% respectively. At the same time, fruit prices kept on growing due to increase in prices for bananas. Prices grew also for melons and watermelons, as the supply of these products was as before not able to satisfy demand in full measure.

We would remind you that more detailed information about the weekly price situation in the Russian and Ukrainian markets for fruits and vegetables, the history of prices over last 5 years and forecasts of their changes as well as full production, import and export statistics is available for subscribers of Fruit-Inform Weekly.
