EU exporters of fruits and vegetables are the most active violators of Rospotrebnadzor's requirements
Violations of phytosanitary and quarantine requirements are most often detected by the officers of Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service on Customers' Rights Protection and Human Well-Being Surveillance of the Russian Federation) in fruits and vegetables imported from the EU countries. “European fresh produce accounts for about 40-50% of all incidents recently registered in the country”, Aleksandr Isayev, Deputy Director of Phytosanitary Control Department of Rospotrebnadzor, said at the Fourth International Conference “Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia – 2011”.
According to Mr. Isayev, fruits and vegetables from China, in spite of the stereotype of their low quality, enter the list of products-violators rather rarely and account for not more than 8% of all incidents recently registered in Russia.
