Difficult season expected for Russian and Ukrainian seed potato producers
Fruit-Inform's analysts think that seed potato producers of Russian and Ukraine should expect a difficult season notwithstanding this year's good harvest.
Serious overproduction of ware potatoes in these countries led to low prices that may make many farmers abandon the potato production business. In addition, the financial state of potato enterprises may be seriously shaken. Therefore many of them will have to reduce areas under potatoes next year and utilize this year's high-quality ware potatoes for planting as much as possible. The demand will decrease also due to producers' record purchasing volumes of seed potatoes in 2011.
The seed potato prices were close to EUR 1/kg in Russia and Ukraine in spring this year. According to Fruit-Inform's estimates, the prices will be at least twice as low next year, and the countries' seed potato imports may sharply fall.

The next meeting of the fresh produce specialists from the CIS countries will be held at the Eighth International Conference “Fruits & Vegetables of Ukraine – 2011. New Exporter”. This event will take place at IEC, the most up-to-date exhibition center of Ukraine in Kiev, in conjunction with Fresh Produce Ukraine 2011 Fair, November 30 – December 2, 2011.
The exhibition will also be a unique place for the global leading seed potato companies to present their products and services. For example, the Dutch companies Agrico and Agroplant have already reserved their exhibition area at the fair.
