Development of Ukrainian greenhouse business becoming more complicated year by year

According to Fruit-Inform, production of greenhouse vegetables has grown by almost 20% in Ukraine since 2008. In the past 2 years, such a growth was backed mainly by the increase in average yields in already available greenhouses, while the areas under new greenhouses have been expanding rather moderately. Experts assert that development of the greenhouse business is becoming more and more complicated in Ukraine year by year. Production costs of greenhouse vegetables increase much faster than the demand and prices for this produce, therefore big greenhouse centers prefer to finance only reconstruction of greenhouses and do not hurry with expanding production areas.

What should be taken into account when planning production for the next season? To what extent is it possible to increase production profitability by use of energy-conservative technologies? Will the governmental program to subsidize the greenhouse business help Ukrainian farms at least partially solve already emerged problems?

All these and many other questions will be answered by Vladimir Chernyshenko, President of Association of Greenhouses of Ukraine, in his speech at the Eighth International Conference “Fruits & Vegetables of Ukraine – 2011. New Exporter”.

We would remind you that the conference will take place in conjunction with Fresh Produce Ukraine 2011 Fair, IEC, Kiev, Ukraine, November 30 – December 2, 2011.
