Value of Ukrainians' minimum New Year fruit and vegetable basket to be three times lower year-on-year

According to Fruit-Inform, the value of Ukrainians' minimum New Year fruit and vegetable basket will averagely be 2.8-3 times as low as in 2010.

“Prior to the New Year holidays, the prices for traditional vegetables (onions, white cabbages, red beets, carrots) will be 4.4 times lower year-on-year, potato prices – 4 times lower”, Mrs. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform, was quoted as saying. “The prices for greenhouse vegetables will be 4-7% lower year-on-year, fruits – 10% less expensive. In such a way, all main fresh produce categories will decrease in price year-on-year.”

A decrease in white cabbage prices will be record-breaking, as these vegetables will cost 10 times as low as in 2010. Onions will be 5 times less expensive, potato prices will decrease 4-fold, red beets will cost 3 times as low as last year, and carrots will be 1.6 times less expensive. None of fruit and vegetable categories will cost more than in 2010. Only apples and greenhouse cucumbers will not be less expensive year-on-year.

We would remind you that the fundamental Ukraine fruit and vegetable price forecast for the season 2012/13 will be presented at the Fourth International Conference “Potatoes and Vegetables of Ukraine – 2012”, Kiev, Ukraine, February 16-17, 2012.
