No problems with vegetable storage faced in Ukraine and Russia for the present
Too low prices remain the main problem for Russian and Ukrainian vegetable producers. There are still almost no problems with the quality of produce. This is indicated by Fruit-Inform's mini-survey of farmers in Ukraine and Russia. Some problems were reported only by producers of carrots and some producers of onions from the southern regions of Russia. At the same time, farmers think that a slight fall of temperature will only profit them. If the temperature remains relatively high in the second half of winter, farmers will most likely not avoid worsening of quality of vegetables in unequipped storage facilities.
As regards prices for produce, they have not practically changed in the past 2 weeks. Vegetables did not become to grow in price in Russia and Ukraine since the middle of winter, as it had been expected by some market participants. On the contrary, some farmers are ready to lower prices to attract purchasers. Such a situation fully corroborates Fruit-Inform's forecasts made at the Eighth International Conference “Fruits & Vegetables of Ukraine – 2011. New Exporter”.
The updated price forecast for April 2012 and the first Ukraine fruit and vegetable production and price forecast for the season 2012/13 will be announced at at the 4th International Conference “Potatoes and Vegetables of Ukraine – 2012”, President Hotel, Kiev, Ukraine, February 16-17, 2012.
