Fruits and vegetables continue to fall in price in Ukraine

Fruit-Inform's fresh produce index shows a further decrease in fruit and vegetable prices in Ukraine. Last week prices fell by 4.6% week-on-week and by 13% in comparison with the beginning of May. In such a way, the second year of the fruit and vegetable price decrease in Ukraine has begun.

“The main reason for last week's slump in prices lies in lower prices of greenhouse vegetables because of their higher supply in the market. In particular, availability of first quantities of cucumbers from plastic (summer) greenhouses was one of the most important events last week. In addition, early vegetables kept on decreasing in price in view of the abundant supply of last year's produce in the market”, Mrs. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform, says.

Strawberry prices are significantly lower year-on-year in Ukraine now. However, early start of the strawberry season in Ukraine does not show impartially lower prices, but prospects of lower production and shorter strawberry harvesting campaign in the country. More detailed information about the Ukrainian, Russian and European berry markets will be presented at the 3rd International Conference “Berries of Ukraine – 2012: Frozen Produce & Fresh Market”.

We also remind you that the fruit and vegetable production and price forecast for the season 2012/13 is available in the fundamental study “Fruit & Vegetable Market of Ukraine – 2012: Results and Forecasts for the Next Season”.
