Ukraine's government and farm industry NGO's signed memorandum about coordinated activities in bread market

Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and non-governmental organisations of farming and processing industries - Ukrainian Grain Association (UZA), bakery plants' association "Ukrkhliboprom" and the All-Ukrainian Association of Bakers - signed a memorandum Wednesday about coordinated activities in the market of bread and bakery products.

In particular, as Deputy Prime Minister for Agriculture Ivan Kyrylenko note at the signing ceremony, the memorandum stipulated measures to stabilise situation in the market, among which there would be provision by the government and regions of formation of permanent grain stocks, subsidising of low-income social layers for purchases of bread.

Cabinet of Ministers also undertakes not to allow interference of other power structures with the activities of bread market participants, Kyrylenko said.

The government and the market participants agreed about supplies of milling grain at fixed prices in the fourth quarter of this year and the first quarter of 2004. The Ukrkhliboprom and Association of Bakers agreed with the 5-percent restriction of the profitability level for these products, proposed by government.

UZA has assumed an obligation to supply 1 million tonnes of milling grain till the end of this year, and to import grain in the following year at acceptable prices.
