Livestock numbers in Ukraine continue dropping
According to State Statistics Committee, the number of cattle, kept by all categories of cattle-breeders in Ukraine as of March 1, 2004, constituted 7,823,300 heads or 83.9 percent of the number as of the same date last year. The number of cows dropped 9.3 percent from March 1, 2003 - to 4,262,100 heads.
The number of hogs as of March 1 this year was registered at the level of 6.897 million heads, which is 23.2 percent less than last year. The number of poultry as of the start of March made 128.5 million heads, or 2.4 percent less than as of March 1, 2003. The number of sheep and goats as of the analysed date was 1,929,400 tonnes, which is a 7.1 percent drop from the year-old figure.
