Russia's livestock industry in February 2004

According to State Statistic Committee of Russian Federation, by March 1 2004 the number of cattle in Russia totaled 25,200,000 heads (up 6.1 percent from the same date last year), including 11,100,000 of cows (down by 5.4 percent), 15,900,000 of hogs (down by 7.9 percent), 16,700,000 of sheep and goats (up 2.5 percent).

In February 2004 cattle, hog and poultry sales for slaughter (live) from all categories of Russian livestock breeders totaled 0.5 million tonnes, that is equal to last month figures. In Russia milk output increased in February to 1,900,000 tonnes (up 0.1 percent in December), eggs output decreased to 2.6 billion (down 0.2 billion).

The accumulating cattle, hog and poultry output for slaughter (live) for January-February period of 2004 totaled 1,100,000 tonnes; also it was produced 3,700,000 tonnes of milk and 5.4 billion of eggs.
