Fruit and vegetable prices continue to fall in Ukraine

Fruit-Inform's fresh produce index shows already the second year of a continuing decrease in fruit and vegetable prices in Ukraine. Last week prices fell by another 1.9%.

Fruits, early and greenhouse vegetables made the most important contribution to last week's decrease in prices”, Mrs. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform, says. “Moreover, prices of last year's potatoes and vegetables remained within their extremely low levels, while farmers were actively dumping their produce having surrendered all hope of selling it”.

It should be noted that strawberry prices stabilized last week. However, they still were 20% lower year-on-year. At the same time, the current strawberry season in Ukraine will be too short, while prices will be higher than usual.

More detailed information about the fruit and vegetable production and price prospects in Ukraine in the season 2012/13 is available in the annual fundamental study “Fruit & Vegetable Market of Ukraine – 2012: Results and Forecasts for the Next Season”.
