Ukrainian apples again lose their position in Russian market
According to Fruit-Inform, apple exports from Ukraine suddenly stopped after being rather active in the beginning. Russian companies again are not interested in purchasing Ukrainian produce due to its uncompetitive prices. Current Ukrainian apple prices are 10-15% higher than prices of Moldovan apples and even 3-5% higher than prices of Polish ones. Moreover, Ukrainian produce is most often inferior to Polish one in quality.
“Competition will grow significantly in the Russian market in this season. Record-breaking production in Russia, record high apple harvest in Ukraine, more than 12% increase in Polish apple production and, most importantly, a decrease in Russia's import duties after joining the WTO. All these factors will negatively affect apple prices in the Russian market”, Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform, says. She also adds that lower apple production in the EU will not back prices in Russia, as Poland always focused on apple shipments to the CIS countries and especially Russia even in the most harvestless years.
We would remind you that the prospects in Russian fruit and vegetable imports will be widely covered by the program of the 5th International Conference "Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia – 2012" that will be held in conjunction with World Food Moscow, September 18, 2012. Special attention will be given to the impact of Russia's accession to the WTO on the foreign trade in fruits and vegetables.
